HEY Y’ALL!

I’M EMMA.

I’m a learning expert, LX/UI/UX designer, and researcher.

I have a 10 years of experience in the design and interaction research space. I specialize in analyzing and designing interactions that involve people learning through multi-media technologies.

Other things I love: writing songs, skiing, and helping people transform their wildest ideas into tangible realities.

INSTRUCTION

Underneath all of my projects is a deep love of making things that connect people with themselves and each other. I make all kinds of things, like:

  • geo-fenced audio tours for historically overlooked neighborhoods

  • slide decks for creatives and start-up businesses

  • annual reports and data stories for international nonprofits

  • wedding invitation suites for artsy lovers

  • plans for converting a CR-V into a camper

  • pop songs composed of old voicemails

  • YOU NAME IT.

My hunger for new tools is a horizon with no vanishing point. While I am largely self-taught in many of these digital applications, I have led workshops and instructed students in everything from making beautiful, compelling slide presentations to designing human-centered, culturally-sustaining research protocols.

Research is at the heart of my process. I thrive when I get to participate in and guide others through interviewing, testing, prototyping, iterating, and incorporating feedback into design. I leverage theories like critical race theory, post-colonial theory, and feminist theory alongside practices like interaction analysis, social experimentation, and culturally responsive pedagogy because I believe:

  • Every human is valuable, worthy, and beloved. Period.

  • Designing for everyone is designing for no one.

  • Intersectionality matters. Marginalization is real.

  • Epistemological diversity is key to reflecting reality.

  • Teaching each student is different than teaching all students.

If these ideas resonate with you, let’s chat!
